Kahuta (Pothwar.com, Imran Zamir, May 17, 2026) — Following a viral video on social media, the Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi took immediate notice and constituted a special inquiry committee comprising the Assistant Commissioner Kahuta Sheeren Gul and DFO Guzara Aram Munir.
Under the supervision of the Assistant Commissioner, the Forest Department team visited the site and found a felled deodar (chir) tree on the property of Raja Shahid Mehmood. The tree, measuring approximately 37 inches in diameter and worth several hundred thousand rupees, was discovered cut and lying on the ground.
According to eyewitnesses and evidence collected from the scene, the tree was allegedly cut by a person identified as Zubair alias Bairi, a resident of Anoor Bewar, who is also reported to be a habitual offender.
Officials stated that cutting trees from private, guzara, or communal forest land requires a valid permit issued by the Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi or the Chairman Guzara Forest Committee. However, the accused failed to produce any such license.
Subsequently, the Guzara Forest Department and the Assistant Commissioner’s staff took custody of the timber and shifted it to the Sihala Timber Depot for auction. Legal proceedings have been initiated against Muhammad Zubair alias Bairi under the Forest Act 1927 and violation of Section 73 of the Guzara Forest Rules.
