Rawalpindi; 15 Newborns Killed in Fire at PIMS Children’s Ward Nursery

راولپنڈی، 27 اگست 2026 (پوٹھوار ڈاٹ کام — اکرم الحق قریشی): پاکستان انسٹی ٹیوٹ آف میڈیکل سائنسز (پمز) کے چلڈرن وارڈ کی نرسری میں بدھ کی صبح اچانک ہولناک آگ بھڑک اٹھی، جس کے نتیجے میں اطلاعات کے مطابق 15 نومولود بچے جاں بحق جبکہ متعدد دیگر شدید زخمی ہوگئے۔

ریسکیو ذرائع کے مطابق آگ صبح تقریباً 7 بجے نرسری میں لگی۔ ابتدائی اطلاعات کے مطابق آگ ایئرکنڈیشنر کے کمپریسر میں دھماکے کے باعث لگی، جس نے دیکھتے ہی دیکھتے نرسری کے بیشتر حصے کو اپنی لپیٹ میں لے لیا۔

اسپتال ذرائع کے مطابق فائر بریگیڈ اور ریسکیو ٹیموں نے کارروائی کرتے ہوئے آگ پر قابو پالیا، تاہم کولنگ کا عمل جاری رکھا گیا تاکہ آگ دوبارہ بھڑکنے کے کسی بھی امکان کو ختم کیا جاسکے۔ آتشزدگی کے باعث نرسری مکمل طور پر جل کر تباہ ہوگئی۔

ذرائع کا کہنا ہے کہ حادثے کے وقت چلڈرن وارڈ میں بڑی تعداد میں بچے زیرِ علاج تھے۔ آگ کے نتیجے میں کم از کم 15 نومولود بچے مکمل طور پر جھلس گئے، جبکہ متعدد دیگر بچوں کو شدید نوعیت کے جھلسنے کے زخم آئے۔ ریسکیو اور ہنگامی طبی ٹیموں نے متاثرہ علاقے سے بچوں کو نکالنے اور صورتحال پر قابو پانے کے لیے فوری کارروائی کی۔

واقعے نے اسپتال میں فائر سیفٹی اور ہنگامی حالات سے نمٹنے کے انتظامات پر بھی کئی سوالات اٹھا دیے ہیں، بالخصوص ایسے وارڈ میں جہاں انتہائی کم عمر اور نازک حالت میں موجود نومولود زیرِ علاج ہوتے ہیں۔

واقعے کی تحقیقات کے لیے حکام نے ایڈیشنل ڈپٹی کمشنر جنرل کی سربراہی میں انکوائری کمیٹی تشکیل دے دی ہے۔ کمیٹی آتشزدگی کی اصل وجوہات کا تعین کرنے کے ساتھ ساتھ ان حالات کا بھی جائزہ لے گی جن کے باعث اتنا بڑا جانی نقصان ہوا۔

انکوائری کمیٹی اس امر کی بھی تحقیقات کرے گی کہ نرسری میں فائر سیفٹی کے مناسب انتظامات، ہنگامی راستے، آگ بجھانے کے آلات اور دیگر حفاظتی سہولیات موجود تھیں یا نہیں، جبکہ یہ بھی دیکھا جائے گا کہ حادثے کے وقت طے شدہ حفاظتی ضوابط پر عمل درآمد کیا جا رہا تھا یا نہیں۔

حادثے میں جاں بحق اور زخمی ہونے والے بچوں کی شناخت اور واقعے سے متعلق مزید تفصیلات تاحال سامنے نہیں آسکی ہیں۔ حکام کی جانب سے انکوائری رپورٹ اور واقعے کی حتمی وجوہات سامنے آنے کا انتظار ہے۔

Rawalpindi, August 27, 2026 (Pothwar.com — Ikram-ul-Haq Qureshi): A devastating fire broke out in the nursery of the Children’s Ward at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) early Wednesday morning, reportedly killing 15 newborn babies and leaving several others critically injured.

According to Rescue sources, the fire erupted at around 7:00am and was allegedly caused by an explosion in the compressor of an air-conditioning unit installed in the nursery. The blaze rapidly spread through the facility, causing extensive damage.

Hospital sources said that firefighters and rescue teams brought the fire under control, while cooling operations were continuing to prevent the blaze from reigniting. The nursery was reportedly completely gutted in the incident.

Sources said a large number of children were admitted to the Children’s Ward when the fire broke out. At least 15 babies were completely burned, while several other children reportedly sustained severe burn injuries. Emergency teams evacuated patients from the affected area and worked to contain the situation.

The incident has raised serious concerns over fire safety and emergency preparedness at the hospital, particularly in an area housing critically vulnerable newborns.

Authorities have constituted an inquiry committee headed by the Additional Deputy Commissioner General to investigate the incident. The committee will determine the exact cause of the fire and examine the circumstances that led to the deaths and injuries.

The committee is also expected to investigate whether the nursery had adequate fire-safety arrangements, emergency exits and equipment, and whether established safety protocols were being followed at the time of the incident.
