Rawalpindi; Heavy Rains Cause Severe Flooding in Nullah Lai

راولپنڈی (پوٹھوار ڈاٹ کام — اکرام الحق قریشی |20اگست 2026)— راولپنڈی اور اسلام آباد سمیت ملک کے بالائی و وسطی علاقوں میں وقفے وقفے سے جاری موسلادھار بارشوں کے باعث نالہ لئی میں شدید طغیانی آ گئی، جہاں نیو کٹاریاں اور گوالمنڈی کے مقامات پر پانی کی سطح 22 فٹ تک ریکارڈ کی گئی۔ میڈیا رپورٹس کے مطباق صورتحال کی سنگینی کو دیکھتے ہوئے ضلعی انتظامیہ اور وسا کی جانب سے خطرے کے سائرن بجا دیئے گئے اور نالہ لئی کے اطراف قائم آبادیوں کو فوری طور پر محفوظ مقامات پر منتقل ہونے کی ہدایات جاری کر دی گئی ہیں، اسلام آباد کے مختلف علاقوں بشمول سیدپور میں سب سے زیادہ 66 ملی میٹر بارش ریکارڈ کی گئی، وسا کی ٹیمیں اور بھاری مشینری ہائی الرٹ پر ہیں اور نشیبی علاقوں سے پانی کی نکاسی کا کام بلا تاخیر جاری ہے۔
دوسری جانب اسلام آباد میں طوفانی بارشوں کے باعث میٹرو بس سروس کی چھتیں ٹپکنے کا واقعہ سامنے آیا، جس سے مسافروں کی نشستوں پر پانی جمع ہو گیا اور شہریوں کو شدید مشکلات کا سامنا کرنا پڑا، وفاقی دارالحکومت کے سیکٹر ایف سیون، ایف ایٹ اور کھنہ ایسٹ سمیت مختلف شاہراہوں پر پانی جمع ہونے سے ٹریفک کا نظام متاثر ہوا۔ پنجاب کے دیگر شہروں جیسے گجرات، نارووال، شکرگڑھ اور منڈی بہاؤالدین میں بھی سڑکیں جل تھل ہو چکی ہیں، جبکہ صوبہ خیبرپختونخواہ کے ضلع صوابی میں طوفانی بارش سے نشیبی علاقے اور نالے زیرِ آب آ گئے، محکمہ موسمیات نے خبردار کیا ہے کہ بارشوں کا یہ سلسلہ آنے والے دنوں تک جاری رہے گا، اس دوران دریائے سندھ کے کالاباغ، چشمہ، تونسہ اور گڈو بیراج پر نچلے درجے کا سیلاب ہے، تاہم دیگر تمام دریاؤں میں پانی کے بہاؤ کی صورتحال فی الحال معمول کے مطابق کنٹرول میں ہے۔

Rawalpindi, August 20, 2026 (Pothohar.com — Ikram-ul-Haq Qureshi): Heavy and intermittent rainfall across Rawalpindi, Islamabad and other upper and central parts of the country has caused a sharp rise in water levels in Nullah Lai, with the water level reportedly reaching 22 feet at New Katarian and Gawalmandi.

In view of the worsening situation, the district administration and the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) sounded danger sirens and directed residents living around Nullah Lai to immediately move to safer locations.

Islamabad also received significant rainfall, with 66 millimetres recorded in Saidpur, among the highest totals reported in the capital. WASA teams and heavy machinery have been placed on high alert, while drainage operations are continuing in low-lying areas.

Meanwhile, torrential rain in Islamabad caused water leakage from the roofs of Metrobus stations, with rainwater reportedly accumulating on passenger seats and creating difficulties for commuters. Several roads, including those in F-7, F-8 and Khanna East, were also affected by water accumulation, disrupting traffic.

Heavy rainfall has also affected several cities in Punjab, including Gujrat, Narowal, Shakargarh and Mandi Bahauddin, where roads and low-lying areas have been inundated. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Swabi district, stormy rains caused low-lying areas and streams to overflow.

The Meteorological Department has warned that the spell of rain is expected to continue over the coming days. Meanwhile, low-level flooding has been reported at the Kalabagh, Chashma, Taunsa and Guddu barrages on the Indus River, while water flows in other rivers remain within controlled and normal ranges.
