London (Pothwar.com — Mohammad Naseer Raja, October 28, 2026) — Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced that it will resume direct flights between Islamabad and Birmingham from December 1, 2026, following efforts by the Government of Pakistan and diplomatic engagement between Pakistan and the United Kingdom.
The announcement has brought a wave of happiness among the Pakistani community living in the United Kingdom, particularly those who travel regularly between Britain and Pakistan to visit family members, attend important events, or conduct business.
The Government of Pakistan has reportedly taken steps to improve air connectivity with the United Kingdom, keeping in view the interests of overseas Pakistanis and the difficulties faced by passengers travelling between the two countries. The restoration of direct flights to Birmingham is expected to provide passengers with a more convenient travel option.
Efforts to facilitate the operation involved senior officials, including the Secretary of Aviation, the Secretary of Defence, and PIA Chief Executive Officer Air Marshal Muhammad Amir Hayat. Consultations and cooperation with British authorities also played a role in facilitating the planned air operations.
Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Dr Mohammad Usman Taqi, and the British High Commissioner to Pakistan have also been involved in high-level diplomatic engagements concerning air links between the two countries. Discussions focused on expanding national airline services to major British cities and strengthening air connectivity between Pakistan and the UK.
According to the airline’s announcement, direct flights between Islamabad and Birmingham will operate three days a week — Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday — starting December 1, 2026.
Under the announced schedule, the flight from Islamabad will depart at 12:15 p.m. and arrive in Birmingham at 4:00 p.m. The return flight from Birmingham will depart at 6:30 p.m. for Islamabad.
The introduction of these direct services is expected to offer greater convenience to British Pakistanis, including families with relatives in Pakistan, business travellers, and other passengers seeking a direct connection between the two destinations.
Birmingham is home to a substantial Pakistani-origin community, with strong family, cultural and economic ties to Pakistan. Improved direct air links are therefore particularly important for travellers from the Midlands and neighbouring areas of the United Kingdom.
The announcement is being welcomed as a positive development in Pakistan–UK connectivity and is expected to strengthen links between overseas Pakistanis and their homeland.
Passengers are advised to confirm flight availability, fares and the final timetable directly with PIA before making travel arrangements.
