۔برنلے کے میئر واجد خان نے لارڈز ہاؤس میں منعقدہ ایک تقریب میں لارڈ آف برنلی کی حیثیت سے حلف اٹھا لیا۔
لندن، محمد نصیر راجہ۔۔۔ پوٹھوار داٹ کوم۔۔۔۔برنلے کے میئر واجد خان نے لارڈز ہاؤس میں منعقدہ ایک تقریب میں لارڈ آف برنلےکی حیثیت سے حلف اٹھا لیا۔لیبر پارٹی کے رہنما ، سر کیئر اسٹارمر کے نامزد ، واجد خان ہاؤس آف لارڈز میں سب سے کم عمر حزب اختلاف کے ممبر بن گئے ہیں۔
واجدخان کا کہنا تھا کہ “میرے والد سن 1960 کی دہائی کے وسط میں برطانیہ پہنچے ، وہ ثقافت اور زبان کو نہیں جانتے تھے۔ 1970 کی دہائی کے اوائل میں میری والدہ بھی پاکستان سے برطانیہ آگئیں۔ تب ، وہ کبھی بھی یہ تصور بھی نہیں کرسکتے تھے کہ ان کا بیٹا ایک دن ہاؤس کا ممبر بن جائے گا۔ یہ اتنا بڑا اعزاز اور استحقاق ہے ، خاص طور پر ایک سادہ پس منظر سے آنے سے۔ میری بیوی انعم اب برنلی کی لیڈی خان ہیں اور میرے بچے تین سالہ حسن اور چھ سالہ عمیرہ ہیں۔ عمیرہ ہمارے گھر کی شہزادی ہیں اور وہ ہمیں یہ یاد دلانے میں بہت خوشی محسوس کررہی ہیں کہ وہ اب ایک معزز ہیں – “
London; Mayor of Burnley Wajid Khan has been sworn in as Lord of Burnley at a ceremony in house of Lords.
London; Nominated by the leader of the Labour Party, Sir Keir Starmer, Wajid becomes the youngest opposition peer in the House of Lords and the borough’s first Peer since Willis Jackson was appointed Baron Jackson of Burnley in 1967.
A delighted Coun. Khan said: “My father arrived in the UK in the mid 1960s, not knowing the culture and language. My mother joined him in the early 1970s. Back then, they could never imagine that their son would one day become a member of The House of Lords. It’s honestly such a huge honour and privilege, especially with coming from a simple background.”
And it turns out the new title has gone down well in his household, although current restrictions mean he must go to the ceremony alone.
“My wife Anam is now Lady Khan of Burnley and my children three-year-old Hassan and six-year-old Ameera are ‘Honourables’. Ameera is the princess in our home and she’s taking great pleasure in reminding us that she’s now an Honourable – she’s researched it and knows her stuff.”
