Rawalpindi (Pothwar.com – Ikram-ul-Haq Qureshi, October 17, 2026): The federal government has reduced the price of petrol by Rs3.63 per litre while increasing the price of high-speed diesel by 31 paisa per litre. Meanwhile, electricity consumers have been hit with an increase of Rs2.56 per unit under the fuel price adjustment for September.
According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Energy’s Petroleum Division, the price of petrol has been reduced from Rs393.86 to Rs390.23 per litre. The price of high-speed diesel, however, has increased from Rs396.65 to Rs396.96 per litre. The revised petroleum prices came into effect on October 16.
The Petroleum Division stated that the adjustments were made in response to changes in international petroleum product prices, premiums and other related costs.
In a separate development, electricity prices have been increased by Rs2.56 per unit under the September fuel price adjustment, according to an announcement issued by the Power Division.
The increase is expected to impose an additional financial burden of more than Rs32.7 billion on electricity consumers.
The Power Division stated that load management measures had helped protect consumers from a heavier fuel price adjustment. However, the latest increase is likely to add to the financial pressure on households and businesses already facing rising living costs.
The simultaneous changes in petroleum and electricity prices are expected to affect transportation expenses, household budgets and the overall cost of goods and services.
