Birmingham given worst city in knife crime by NHS report

Birmingham saw one of the sharpest increases in stabbings in the country last year. Around 260 people from the city were admitted to hospital with stab wounds in 2018/19.
That’s up 35 from the 225 cases the year before – one of the biggest rises in England.

The figures show a year on year increase in Birmingham stabbings since 2012/13, when there were 125 cases.

The figures were published by NHS Digital – who round the numbers to the nearest five to protect the anonymity of victims.

Of the victims, 245 were male, while 15 were female.
Around 80 victims were of white ethnicity, 50 were of Asian or Asian British ethnicity, and 40 were of black or black British ethnicity.
Around 15 victims were of mixed ethnicity.
