Danish government proposes ban on full-face veils

ڈنمارک کی پارلیمان نے ملک میں عوامی مقامات پر پورے چہرے کے نقاب پر پابندی کا قانون منظور کر لیا ہے۔
اس سے قبل کئی یورپی یونین ممالک میں ایسی پابندیاں عائد کی جا چکی ہیں جس میں نقاب یا برقع پہننے والی مسلمان خواتین متاثر ہوئی ہیں۔
جمعرات کو ڈنمارک کی پارلیمان میں منظور ہونے والے اس قانون کے حق میں 75 اور اس کی مخالفت میں 30 ووٹ پڑے، جبکہ اس قانون کا اطلاق یکم اگست سے ہوگا۔
اس پابندی کی خلاف ورزی پر 100 کرونر (163118; $157) جرمانہ ہوگا، جبکہ دوبارہ ایسا کرنے پر دس گنا زیادہ جرمانہ وصول کیا جائے گا۔
Denmark’ Denmark has joined some other European countries in deciding to ban garments that cover the face, including Islamic veils such as the niqab or burqa.
In a 75-30 vote with 74 absentees, Danish lawmakers approved the law presented by the center-right governing coalition. The government says that it is not aimed at any religions and does not ban headscarves, turbans or the traditional Jewish skull cap.
First-time offenders risk a fine of 1,000 kroner ($156). Repeat offenses could trigger fines of up to 10,000 kroner or a jail sentence of up to six months.
Anyone forcing a person to wear garments covering the face by using force or threats can be fined or face up to two years in prison.
Austria, France and Belgium have similar laws.
