London: Prof Adeeba Malik appointed as first British Pakistani woman Lord Lieutenant in the UK

لندن (پوٹھوارڈاٹ کام، محمد نصیر راجہ – 25 ستمبر 2025): – پروفیسر ادیبہ ملک، جو ایشیائی نژاد اور برٹش پاکستانی خاتون کے طور پر برطانیہ میں لارڈ لیفٹیننٹ کے عہدے پر فائز ہونے والی پہلی شخصیت ہیں، نے کہا ہے کہ وہ لوگوں کی خدمت “بغیر کسی امتیاز کے، چاہے ان کا تعلق کسی بھی مذہب، رنگ یا پس منظر سے ہو” کریں گی۔

پروفیسر ادیبہ ملک، کنگ چارلس سوم کی جانب سے تقرری کے بعد، ایڈ اینڈرسن کی ریٹائرمنٹ پر 22 دسمبر کو ویسٹ یارکشائر کی لارڈ لیفٹیننٹ کی ذمہ داریاں سنبھالیں گی۔ یہ اعزازی منصب بادشاہ کے نمائندے کے طور پر ویسٹ یارکشائر میں خدمات انجام دینے پر مشتمل ہے، جسے پروفیسر ملک نے “بہت بڑا اعزاز” قرار دیا۔

برڈفورڈ میں پیدا ہونے والی پروفیسر ملک نے یونیورسٹی آف ہل سے تعلیم کے شعبے میں ڈگری حاصل کی اور 1990 کی دہائی کے اوائل میں ویلنگٹن مڈل اسکول میں دو سال تک تدریس کی۔ انہوں نے 1992 میں برڈفورڈ کی خیراتی تنظیم کیو ای ڈی فاؤنڈیشن میں شمولیت اختیار کی اور فی الحال ڈپٹی چیف ایگزیکٹو کے طور پر خدمات انجام دے رہی ہیں۔

ویسٹ یارکشائر پولیس کے چیف کانسٹیبل جان رابنز نے کہا: “ادیبہ نے اپنے دورِ ہائی شیرف کے دوران ایمرجنسی سروسز کے ساتھ قریبی تعلقات قائم رکھے اور میں اس نئے عہدے میں ان کے ساتھ کام کرنے کے لیے بے حد پُر امید ہوں۔”

بریڈفورڈ کے بشپ، رائٹ ریورنڈ ٹوبی ہاورٹھ نے بھی اس تقرری کا خیر مقدم کیا اور کہا: “ادیبہ میں وہ تمام خصوصیات موجود ہیں جو انہیں ویسٹ یارکشائر کی تمام برادریوں کے ساتھ جُڑنے اور سماجی ہم آہنگی کو فروغ دینے کے قابل بنائیں گی۔”

London (Pothwar.com, Mohammad Naseer Raja – September 25, 2025): Prof Adeeba Malik, the first woman of Asian heritage and British Pakistani to become a Lord Lieutenant in the UK, has said she will serve people “regardless of their faith, colour or background”.

Prof Adeeba Malik will succeed Ed Anderson upon his retirement as Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire on 22 December after being appointed by King Charles III.

The ceremonial role entails being the King’s representative across West Yorkshire, which Professor Malik described as “a huge honour”.

She said: “My job is really making sure that I represent His Majesty the way he would want me to represent him across West Yorkshire.”

Born in Bradford, Prof Malik studied education at the University of Hull before returning home to teach at Wellington Middle School for two years in the early 1990s.

She joined Bradford-based charity QED Foundation in 1992 and is currently the deputy chief executive.

West Yorkshire Police’s chief constable John Robins said: “Adeeba worked very closely with the emergency services during her year as High Sheriff and I very much look forward to working with her in this new role.”

The appointment was also welcomed by the Bishop of Bradford, the Right Rev Toby Howarth, who said: “Adeeba has all the necessary qualities that will enable her to reach across all West Yorkshire communities and promote social cohesion.”
