Kahuta (Pothohar.com Correspondent, Imran Zamir – June 21, 2025): Due to the inefficiency of the Public Health Department Rawalpindi, residents of Kahuta are facing an acute water crisis. Over 70% of the population is completely deprived of water, while the water being supplied from Kahuta is allegedly contaminated and poses serious health risks.
Despite over Rs. 700 million being allocated and spent on the Kahuta city water supply and sewage projects during the past five years under the previous governments of PML-N and PTI, there is no visible sign of the sewerage infrastructure on the ground. Furthermore, no expansion has been made to the 40-year-old water source, resulting in the failure of the new water pipelines to benefit the majority of Kahuta’s population.
Public Health Department Rawalpindi reportedly laid new water pipelines after digging up streets and roads but failed to restore or repair them. As a result, the entire city is riddled with broken streets and deep pits, making it extremely difficult and dangerous for children, women, the elderly, and patients to walk safely.
Locals allege that the misuse of this massive grant — in collusion with local political figures and with the backing of the Public Health Department — appears to be a deliberate attempt to tarnish the image of the current PML-N government. Meanwhile, citizens are left desperate under extreme heat, struggling to access clean water.
The residents of Kahuta have appealed to the Chief Minister of Punjab, the Commissioner of Rawalpindi, and the Deputy Commissioner of Rawalpindi to immediately launch an inquiry and ensure the provision of clean drinking water to the people of Kahuta.
