London: Zulfi Karim was appointed the first Asian High Sheriff in West Yorkshire’s 1,000-year history

Zulfi Karim DL, of Saltaire, has been appointed as the High Sheriff of West Yorkshire, a post he will hold for the next 12 months. He was officially appointed in a ceremony held at Leeds Combined Court on Monday, April 3.

He is the first member of the Black and Minority Ethnic Community (BAME) in its more than 1,000-year history to take up the non-political post, which he was nominated for. The role has a focus on law and order and Mr Karim will assist the police in the county during his year.
