لوٹن ; لوٹن ٹاؤن ہال میں میئر بنائے جانے کی تقریب منعقد ہوئی اجلاس کی کارروائی کا آغاز علامہ قاضی عبدالعزیز چشتی کی تلاوت سے کیا گیا جس میں سبکدوش ہونے والی لیڈی میئر نسیم ایوب نے بطور میئر اپنی سرگرمیوں پر روشنی ڈالی اور خیراتی اداروں کے لئے کی گئی امداد سے آگاہ کیا، نئے میئر کونسلر طاہر محمود ملک نے اپنی ایک سالہ ترجیحات پر روشنی ڈالی ان کا کہنا تھا کہ اس گریٹ ٹاؤن کی میئر شپ ملنا ایک بڑا اعزاز ہے اور وہ اس موقع کو کمیونٹیز کی خدمت کے لئے بروئے کار لائیں گے۔ میئر نے بتایاکہ وہ کوٹلی سے تعلق رکھتے ہیں تقریب میں ان کی اہلیہ آسیہ ملک اور بچوں سمیت عمائدین کی کثیر تعداد نے شرکت کی۔
Luton; Cllr Tahir Malik was invested as the new Mayor of Luton in a ceremony at the Town Hall. Friends and dignitaries from within Luton and further afield gathered to witness the event.
Born in Kotli, Azad Kashmir Cllr Malik moved to Luton in 1996, He joined the Labour party in 1999 and became an active member, campaigning alongside Kelvin Hopkins, MP and other councillors. Alongside his political activities he also became a school governor at Downside and he has also been a member of the Luton and Dunstable Foundation Trust.
Cllr Malik married his wife, Asia, in 1994 and they have four children, the eldest of which are both due to graduate from university this year.
Summarising his plans for his time as Mayor, Cllr Malik said: “I always try to make a difference to my constituents’ daily lives and prospects. I always believe that selflessness, integrity, objectivity honesty, openness and accountability are the keys of effective leadership. I am humbled by this opportunity to be Mayor of this great town and I will do all I can to serve the town and its residents during my time in office.”
