Blackburn; An innocent man was branded a terrorist, arrested and locked up after his brother-in-law framed him in a plot to get him deported.
Usman Ahmed, 32, spent months organising the scheme, angry that the victim had split up with his sister after a brief arranged marriage. Ahmed tracked the man’s movements, planted evidence, and then made an anonymous false report – using voice distorting technology – that the victim was planning attacks on Sikh temples.
Ahmed’s scheme led to his brother-in-law being seized by counter-terror cops and spending hours in a cell. Three police forces were drawn into the web of deception – mounting operations which cost £30,000.
Now Ahmed has been locked up himself – for five years and four months – after pleading guilty to perverting the course of justice. He was found out by police after they learnt of his sister’s break-up.
