Kallar Syedan (Pothwar.com – Ikram-ul-Haq Qureshi | July 1, 2026): Assistant Commissioner Kallar Syedan, Dr Syeda Zainab Hussain, has said that providing clean drinking water to citizens is one of the Punjab government’s top priorities, and practical measures are being taken to ensure access to safe water across the tehsil.
Speaking during a meeting with representatives of the Kallar Syedan Youth Council, officials from the Punjab Saaf Pani Authority, and the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO), she announced that the Saaf Pani Authority is installing 41 water filtration plants in various union councils of Kallar Syedan. Under the directives of the Punjab government, the School Education Department will provide land for the installations, allowing both students and local residents to benefit from the project.
Dr. Hussain said the filtration plant being installed at the Kallar Syedan Sports Ground is a public welfare initiative aimed at providing clean drinking water to the community. She firmly rejected concerns that the project would reduce the playing area or disrupt sports activities, assuring that local athletes would continue to have full access to sports facilities.
She further clarified that the school grounds are government property and that the filtration plant is also a government welfare project. She emphasised that there would be no negative impact on sports, adding that the Punjab government is also working on the construction of a Sports Complex in Kallar Syedan, which will provide improved facilities for athletes in the future.
The Assistant Commissioner dismissed objections raised by the Youth Council, stating that access to clean drinking water is just as essential as sports. She said it is the government’s responsibility to ensure safe drinking water for the public and warned that no one would be allowed to create unnecessary obstacles to this public welfare project.
The meeting was attended by Chief Officer Municipal Committee Riffat Iqbal Pasha, Headmaster Khalid Abbasi, representatives of the FWO and Saaf Pani Authority, Youth Council President Sohail Butt, Ajmal Munir, Sardar Taj, and former Municipal Committee member Abid Zahedi.
