Kahuta (Pothwar.com, Kabir Ahmed Janjua, October 07, 2026)– A dangerous type of weed is reportedly spreading rapidly across the forests of Kahuta, Kallar Syedan and Kotli Sattian in Rawalpindi and Murree districts, posing a serious threat to trees, plants and agricultural land.
Raja Tahir Iqbal, a resident of Tappiyali Rajgan village in Kahuta and currently residing in England, expressed concern over the rapid spread of the weed in a statement. He appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to take notice of the issue and direct the relevant departments to take immediate and effective measures to control and eradicate the plant.
According to Raja Tahir Iqbal, the weed grows into a dense shrub and gradually surrounds nearby trees and plants. He claimed that it competes with other vegetation for water and nutrients from the soil, eventually causing affected trees and plants to dry out.
He further expressed concern that the plant could also pose risks to animals and contribute to health problems, including respiratory and throat-related illnesses. He urged the authorities to scientifically identify the plant and conduct laboratory tests to determine its potential effects on humans, animals and the environment.
Raja Tahir Iqbal called for practical measures to prevent the weed from spreading further, including research into an effective treatment that could eliminate it at its roots. He said urgent action was needed to protect the forests, agricultural fields and natural vegetation of the affected areas.
He expressed hope that the Punjab government and relevant departments would take immediate steps to assess the situation and develop an effective strategy for controlling the spread of the potentially harmful weed.
