Gujar Khan (Pothwar.com, October 02, 2026): The last carriage of the Quetta Express, travelling from Rawalpindi to Lahore, derailed underneath a bridge on the GT Road near Gujar Khan, causing disruption to rail traffic for several hours. Fortunately, all passengers on board remained safe and no casualties were reported.
According to railway officials, the carriage reportedly derailed due to a suspected fault in the brake set. The incident affected approximately one kilometre of railway track, resulting in the suspension of train operations on the affected section.
The derailment also disrupted the schedules of several other trains, causing delays and inconvenience to passengers travelling on the Rawalpindi-Lahore railway route.
Railway officials said that the affected carriage was subsequently removed from the track and recovered. Following completion of the recovery operation and necessary safety checks, rail traffic on the Rawalpindi-Lahore section was restored.
The incident has once again drawn attention to concerns over railway safety and the increasing number of derailment-related incidents in recent times. Public and social circles have urged the Prime Minister of Pakistan and senior railway authorities to take practical and effective measures to improve the safety of passengers and prevent such incidents in the future.
They stressed the need for regular inspection and maintenance of railway coaches, braking systems and tracks to ensure safe and uninterrupted train operations.
