Dubai: Driverless Taxi Service Launched in Dubai, Raising Job Concerns for Pakistani Drivers

دبئی (پوٹھوار ڈاٹ کام، محمد نصیر راجہ، 07 اپریل 2026ء) – دبئی میں ٹیکسی چلانے والے پاکستانی ڈرائیورز بے روزگار ہو جانے کے خدشے سے دوچار، دبئی میں بغیر ڈرائیور ٹیکسی سروس کا آغاز، ابتدائی طور پر شہر میں بنا ڈرائیور کے 100 ٹیکسیاں چلائی جائیں گی۔

تفصیلات کے مطابق دبئی کے پبلک ٹرانسپورٹ شعبہ میں جدت لانے کے حوالے سے اہم پیش رفت ہوئی ہے۔
دبئی دنیا کے ان چند شہروں میں شامل ہو گیا جہاں اب بنا ڈرائیورز والی ٹیکسیاں چلیں گی۔ دبئی میڈیا آفس سے جاری رپورٹ کے مطابق دبئی کی روڈز اینڈ ٹرانسپورٹ اتھارٹی (آر ٹی اے)نے باضابطہ طور پر خود کار ٹیکسی سروس کا آغاز کر دیا۔ اس ٹیکسی سروس کا آغاز دبئی کی ساحلی پٹی جمیرہ سے متصل رہائشی اور تجارتی علاقے ام سقیم میں ہوا ہے۔

دبئی میں یہ ٹیکسیاں دو چینی خود مختار ڈرائیونگ ٹیکنالوجی کمپنیوں کے ساتھ مل کر چلائی جا رہی ہیں جو کہ عوام کے لیے اوبر اور اپولو گو ایپ کے ذریعے دستیاب ہیں۔

اس حوالے سے حکام کا کہنا تھاکہ ابتدائی طور پر شہر کے ٹرانسپورٹ نیٹ ورک میں بغیر ڈرائیور کے چلنے والی 100 ٹیکسیاں تعینات کی گئی ہیں۔ حکام کے مطابق جدید ٹرانسپورٹ ٹیکنالوجی کی بڑھتی ہوئی طلب کو پورا کرنے اور دبئی کی مستقبل پر مرکوز نقل و حرکت کی حکمتِ عملی کو سپورٹ کرنے کے لیے آنے والے سالوں میں ان کی تعداد میں بتدریج اضافہ ہو گا۔

تاہم جہاں بنا ڈرائیورز والی ٹیکسیوں کی سروس کے آغاز کو دبئی کے پبلک ٹرانسپورٹ شعبہ میں جدت لانے کے حوالےسے اہم پیش رفت قرار دیا جا رہا ہے، وہیں یہ معاملہ دبئی میں ٹیکسی چلانے والے پاکستانی اور دیگر ممالک کے ڈرائیورز کیلئے پریشانی کا باعث بن گیا ہے۔ دبئی اور دیگر اماراتی علاقوں میں اس وقت ہزاروں پاکستانی ٹیکسی ڈرائیونگ کے شعبہ سے وابستہ ہیں۔ اب دبئی میں شروع کی گئی خود کار ٹیکسی سروس کے منصوبے کی کامیابی اور اس میں مزید توسیع کے نتیجے میں رویتی ٹیکس سروسز سے وابستہ پاکستانی ڈرائیورز کے بے روزگار ہو جانے کا خطرہ بڑھ جائے گا۔

Dubai (Pothwar.com, Mohammad Naseer Raja | April 07, 2026) — A major technological shift in public transport has begun in Dubai with the launch of a driverless taxi service, sparking concerns among Pakistani drivers about potential job losses.

According to details, Dubai has joined a select group of global cities introducing autonomous taxis as part of efforts to modernise its transportation sector. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has officially rolled out the service, marking a significant milestone in the emirate’s smart mobility strategy.

The service has initially been launched in the coastal residential and commercial area of Umm Suqeim, near Jumeirah. Authorities confirmed that around 100 driverless taxis have been deployed in the first phase across the city.

These taxis are being operated in collaboration with two Chinese autonomous driving technology companies and are available to the public through ride-hailing apps such as Uber and Apollo Go.

Officials stated that the number of autonomous taxis will gradually increase in the coming years to meet rising demand for advanced transport solutions and to support Dubai’s future-focused mobility plans.

While the initiative is being seen as a major step forward in innovation, it has raised serious concerns among traditional taxi drivers, particularly Pakistanis working in the sector. Thousands of Pakistani drivers are currently employed in Dubai and other emirates.

Experts warn that if the driverless taxi project proves successful and expands further, it could significantly impact conventional taxi services, increasing the risk of unemployment for many expatriate drivers, including those from Pakistan.
