Rawat: Major Changes Approved in Murree Road Expansion Project, Cost Rises to Rs 17 Billion

روات (پوٹھوار ڈاٹ کام — اکرام الحق قریشی | 19 جنوری 2026)—راولپنڈی ڈویلپمنٹ اتھارٹی نے لیاقت باغ سے چاندنی چوک تک مری روڈ کو کشادہ کرنے کے منصوبے میں اہم تبدیلیاں کر دی ہیں۔سڑک کی چوڑائی دونوں اطراف 15 فٹ سے بڑھا کر 20 فٹ کرنے کا فیصلہ کیا گیا ہے جبکہ منصوبے کی مجموعی لاگت 8 ارب روپے سے بڑھ کر 17 ارب روپے ہو گئی ہے۔

آر ڈی اے کے ایک سینئر افسر کے مطابق نظرِ ثانی شدہ منصوبے میں ٹریفک کی روانی بہتر بنانے اور رش کم کرنے کے لیے دونوں اطراف سروس لینز بھی شامل کی گئی ہیں۔ یہ منصوبہ ضلعی انتظامیہ کی سفارشات پر ترمیم کے بعد پنجاب سالانہ ترقیاتی پروگرام کے تحت دوبارہ منظوری کے لیے پیش کیا گیا ہے۔منصوبے کے لیے مجموعی طور پر 48 کنال اراضی درکار ہوگی،جس میں سے 17.7 ارب روپے صرف زمین کے حصول کے لیے مختص کیے گئے ہیں۔

منصوبہ مکمل ہونے کے بعد مریر چوک سے فیض آباد تک مرکزی شاہراہ سگنل فری ہو جائے گی جس سے ٹریفک کی استعداد بڑھے گی اور علاقے کی مجموعی خوبصورتی میں بھی اضافہ ہوگا۔حکام کے مطابق چاندنی چوک سے فیض آباد تک سروس لینز پہلے سے موجود ہیں،جبکہ نئی لینز کے اضافے سے ٹریفک کی روانی مزید بہتر ہوگی۔ زمین کے سروے کا عمل جاری ہے اور صوبائی حکومت کی جانب سے فنڈز کی منظوری کے بعد تعمیراتی کام شروع کیا جائے گا۔

اس کے علاوہ پنجاب اے ڈی پی میں دو پارکنگ پلازہ منصوبے بھی شامل کیے گئے ہیں۔بے نظیر بھٹو اسپتال میں تین منزلہ پارکنگ پلازہ تعمیر کیا جائے گا،جس میں 480 گاڑیوں کی گنجائش ہوگی۔
کمرشل مارکیٹ میں پانچ منزلہ پارکنگ پلازہ بنایا جائے گا، جس میں 700 گاڑیوں کی پارکنگ اور 100 کمرشل دکانیں ہوں گی۔نظرِ ثانی شدہ مری روڈ توسیعی منصوبہ راولپنڈی کی مصروف ترین شاہراہ پر ٹریفک مسائل کم کرنے اور شہری آمد و رفت بہتر بنانے میں اہم کردار ادا کرے گا۔

Rawat (Pothwar.com — Ikram Haq Qureshi | January 19, 2026) The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has approved significant revisions to the Murree Road expansion project from Liaquat Bagh to Chandni Chowk, increasing both the scope and cost of the scheme. Under the revised plan, the width of the road on both sides will be increased from 15 feet to 20 feet, while the total project cost has surged from Rs 8 billion to Rs 17 billion.

According to a senior RDA official, the updated plan also includes the construction of service lanes on both sides to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion. The revised project, amended on the recommendations of the district administration, has been resubmitted for approval under the Punjab Annual Development Programme (ADP).

The project will require a total of 48 kanals of land, with approximately Rs 17.7 billion earmarked solely for land acquisition. Once completed, the main corridor from Marrir Chowk to Faizabad will become signal-free, significantly enhancing traffic capacity and improving the overall aesthetics of the area.

Officials stated that service lanes already exist from Chandni Chowk to Faizabad, and the addition of new lanes will further ease traffic movement. Land survey work is currently underway, and construction activities will commence following the approval of funds by the provincial government.

In addition, two parking plaza projects have also been included in the Punjab ADP. A three-storey parking plaza will be constructed at Benazir Bhutto Hospital with a capacity for 480 vehicles. Meanwhile, a five-storey parking plaza will be built in the Commercial Market area, offering parking for 700 vehicles along with 100 commercial shops.

The revised Murree Road expansion project is expected to play a vital role in addressing traffic challenges on one of Rawalpindi’s busiest arteries and significantly improving urban mobility.
