On the first day of the holy month of Ramadan, the administration in Kahuta launched a strict crackdown against profiteers and vendors selling substandard food items. Assistant Commissioner Shireen Gul conducted surprise inspections across the city and its surrounding areas to ensure implementation of official price lists.
During the inspections, various markets, including vegetable and fruit stalls, grocery stores, and general shops, were checked. Shopkeepers found charging above the government-approved rates were fined on the spot, while others were issued strict warnings. Authorities made it clear that repeated violations would result in heavy penalties, sealing of shops, and possible imprisonment.
Speaking to journalists and citizens during the visit, Assistant Commissioner Shireen Gul stated that those exploiting the public during the sacred month would not be granted any concession. She emphasised that overcharging shopkeepers would not only face substantial fines but could also have their businesses sealed and be sent to jail.
“My doors are always open for the public. There will be no compromise on public interest, and profiteers do not deserve any leniency,” she said.
Meanwhile, to mark the arrival of Ramadan, major intersections and roads in Kahuta have been decorated with colourful lights, creating a festive and spiritual atmosphere in the city.
Additionally, special Ramadan Dastarkhwan (free iftar arrangements) have been organised at Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Kahuta and Kahuta Club to facilitate deserving individuals with daily iftar meals.
Citizens have appreciated the administration’s timely action and expressed hope that strict monitoring of prices will continue throughout the holy month to provide relief to the public.
