expressed deep concern over the injuries suffered by children in the recent school van accident in Murree, stressing that effective and mandatory safety measures for vehicles transporting schoolchildren must be implemented across Pakistan.

Expressing sympathy with the injured children and their families, Chauhan said the incident highlights the urgent need for a comprehensive safety system for school vans.

He called for every school van to undergo regular comprehensive inspections by government or authorized agencies. He also emphasized the need for mandatory insurance, proper verification of drivers, and the availability of emergency safety equipment.

According to Chauhan, critical safety components including brakes, tyres, electrical systems, batteries, doors, emergency exits and passenger capacity should be inspected regularly. He said vehicles found to be unsafe should not be allowed back on the road until they successfully pass a subsequent inspection.

He stressed that authorities should adopt a policy focused on identifying and preventing risks before accidents occur rather than taking action only after an incident.

Chauhan also suggested that Pakistan could learn from effective vehicle inspection and insurance systems in countries such as the United Arab Emirates.

“Children’s lives are precious.
