Javed Iqbal, 49, of Castleton Road, Perry Barr, was caught out in a sting operation after sending – and asking for – explicit pictures

He arranged the meet-up in Widnes, Cheshire, after sending – and asking to receive – explicit pictures to someone he was clearly told was just 14.<\/h4>\n

Iqbal believed he was meeting the lad in Widnes on September 7, 2024 but found police officers there and was arrested.<\/h4>\n

He was jailed at Liverpool Crown Court having been found guilty of arranging the commission of an offence of sexual activity with a child and attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.<\/h4>\n

Cheshire Police said the arrest was arranged when the force was told an adult had been speaking to Iqbal posing as the teenage boy.<\/h4>\n

A spokesperson said: “Although there was no young victim in this case, Iqbal did not know this and was intent on meeting with a child for sexual purposes, travelling a long distance to do so.<\/h4>\n

“He also sent explicit messages to the child, even after they clearly informed him of their age.<\/h4>\n

“Iqbal attempted to deny the allegations but has now been found guilty of the offences and handed a custodial sentence which reflects the severity of the charges against him.<\/h4>\n
