Rawalpindi, August 27, 2026 (Pothwar.com \u2014 Ikram-ul-Haq Qureshi):<\/strong>\u00a0A devastating fire broke out in the nursery of the Children\u2019s Ward at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) early Wednesday morning, reportedly killing 15 newborn babies and leaving several others critically injured.<\/h4>\n

According to Rescue sources, the fire erupted at around 7:00am<\/strong> and was allegedly caused by an explosion in the compressor of an air-conditioning unit installed in the nursery. The blaze rapidly spread through the facility, causing extensive damage.<\/h4>\n

Hospital sources said that firefighters and rescue teams brought the fire under control, while cooling operations were continuing to prevent the blaze from reigniting. The nursery was reportedly completely gutted in the incident.<\/h4>\n

Sources said a large number of children were admitted to the Children\u2019s Ward when the fire broke out. At least 15 babies were completely burned<\/strong>, while several other children reportedly sustained severe burn injuries. Emergency teams evacuated patients from the affected area and worked to contain the situation.<\/h4>\n

The incident has raised serious concerns over fire safety and emergency preparedness at the hospital, particularly in an area housing critically vulnerable newborns.<\/h4>\n
