London (Pothwar.com \u2013 Mohammad Naseer Raja, June 13, 2026): Nicholsons Shopping Centre, in Maidenhead, was closed on June 9th. The shopping centre had a large community from Kallar Syedan, Kahuta and Gujar Khan living nearby, as well as the local Masjid.<\/h4>\n

The centre was built in the early 1960s as part of a major redevelopment of Maidenhead town centre. At the time, increasing traffic and changing shopping habits led local planners to modernise the High Street area. The project created a new shopping precinct and helped transform Maidenhead into a modern retail destination.<\/h4>\n

Originally, the development was an open-air shopping complex rather than the enclosed mall familiar to later generations. In the early 1970s, a roof was added, creating the covered shopping centre that became known as the Nicholsons.<\/h4>\n

During the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, the Nicholsons was the heart of shopping in Maidenhead. Major national retailers occupied units in the centre, including well-known chains such as Woolworths and Our Price. For many local residents, it was a place not only to shop but also to meet friends and spend time in the town centre.<\/h4>\n

The shopping centre closed permanently on 9 June 2026. Demolition is scheduled as part of a \u00a3500 million regeneration project known as Nicholsons Quarter. The redevelopment will replace most of the existing structure with a mixed-use neighbourhood containing more than 850 homes, new shops, caf\u00e9s, restaurants, offices and public spaces. A new civic square named Sir Nicholas Winton Square will form the centrepiece of the development.<\/h4>\n

For many people in Maidenhead, the Nicholsons Shopping Centre represents an important part of the town’s social history. From its beginnings as a modern 1960s shopping precinct to its final days in 2026, it served as Maidenhead’s principal shopping destination for over six decades.
