Jamaat-e-Islami Central Vice Ameer Liaqat Baloch has termed the Punjab Local Government Act a \u201cblack law,\u201d stating that the 120 million people of Punjab outrightly reject it. He said that those who come to power riding on the shoulders of the establishment have always brought humiliation to the nation, adding that Imran Khan is today facing the same circumstances once faced by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Mian Nawaz Sharif.<\/h4>\n

Addressing a press conference at Qurtaba Mosque, Kallar Syedan, Liaqat Baloch said that if a country could progress politically and economically under the shadow of the establishment, this would have already been achieved during the eras of Ayub Khan, Yahya Khan, Zia-ul-Haq, or Pervez Musharraf. However, history has proven otherwise. He emphasized that holding general elections on the basis of proportional representation is urgently needed, but unfortunately, except for Jamaat-e-Islami, no other political party is paying serious attention to this demand.<\/h4>\n

He said that despite repeated claims by the rulers and numerous foreign visits, Pakistan\u2019s political and economic conditions continue to deteriorate, pushing the country toward a quagmire. He stressed that political stability is the key to resolving all national issues, and without it, economic development remains an unattainable dream. He lamented that political chaos, unemployment, inflation, and corruption are at their peak, while the elite continue to plunder national resources.<\/h4>\n

Liaqat Baloch strongly criticized the Punjab government for not holding local government elections for the past eleven years, calling it a denial of basic rights to the people and a serious question mark on the performance of the Election Commission. He said the new local government system has rendered elected representatives powerless, and holding non-party-based elections followed by forcing elected members to join political parties is an insult to the democratic process.<\/h4>\n

He announced that Jamaat-e-Islami is protesting against this \u201cblack law\u201d across Punjab and, from January 15, has set up referendum camps at major intersections, roads, public places, outside mosques, and bus stands, urging the public to participate actively.<\/h4>\n

Speaking about youth, he said Pakistan\u2019s young generation is patriotic and talented but is being deliberately pushed toward despair by certain elements. He added that Jamaat-e-Islami, through its \u201cBano Qabil\u201d program, has provided modern skills to millions of youth to help them stand on their own feet and assured that the party would never disappoint them.<\/h4>\n

He reiterated that Jamaat-e-Islami is striving for the enforcement of the Quran and Sunnah, which he described as the only sustainable solution to Pakistan\u2019s problems. He also called upon all political parties to set aside their differences and unite for the supremacy of the Constitution, independence of the judiciary, restoration of public rights, provincial autonomy, and immediate release of political prisoners, especially women.<\/h4>\n

Commenting on international affairs, Liaqat Baloch termed the US President as arrogant and warned that while he poses a major threat to global peace, he could also become America\u2019s Gorbachev. He strongly condemned US and Israeli interference in Iran\u2019s internal affairs and stressed that peace in the region requires Iran, Pakistan, and Afghanistan to be on the same page. He urged the Afghan Taliban to ensure that Afghan soil is not used against any country, stating that Pakistan has always been their sincere ally and has made immense sacrifices, including hosting millions of Afghan refugees.<\/h4>\n

Responding to a question from Nawa-e-Waqt<\/em>, he reiterated the importance of proportional representation in general elections and said that Jamaat-e-Islami is ready to guide and assist other parties if they agree to adopt this system.<\/h4>\n
