The performance of the Punjab Highway Department has come under serious question as the recently constructed carpet road on Kallar Syedan\u2013Dhuangalli Road has started deteriorating within months of its completion.<\/h4>\n

Despite visible damage, officials including the sub-engineer, SDO, XEN and SM have reportedly remained silent. No formal notice has been taken, nor has any on-site inspection been carried out to address the situation.<\/h4>\n

The Punjab government launched the reconstruction of the Kallar Syedan to Dhuangalli (River Jhelum) road in late 2022 at a cost of Rs 1.57 billion. The first phase of the project, from Kallar Syedan to Choha Khalsa, has been completed. However, the second phase, from Sarsoba Shah to Dhuangalli, remains incomplete and has been plagued by repeated technical faults.<\/h4>\n

According to local sources, the contractor has failed to complete the 10\u201311 kilometer stretch even after three years. The road was carpeted a few months ago but failed to last even two months. Sections of the road in Shah Khaki and Palala Mulah Khan have broken down, clearly indicating substandard and poor-quality construction.<\/h4>\n

Residents allege that despite these flaws, Punjab Highway authorities are merely observing the situation without taking corrective action. It is further claimed that from junior engineers to senior officials, oversight on construction quality remains weak, while even hired consultants have failed to ensure proper standards. The deteriorating road has raised serious concerns about transparency, accountability, and the effective use of public funds.<\/h4>\n
