Pakistan Awam Party chief and former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi<\/strong> has said that the 27th Constitutional Amendment has effectively changed the entire Constitution<\/strong>, and the immunity granted to the President and others is proof that \u201cthey do not trust the judiciary.\u201d Speaking to journalists from Kallar Syedan at his residence, he said that the way the country is being run today \u201cis not sustainable.\u201d<\/h4>\n

Abbasi stated that even Zulfikar Ali Bhutto amended his own Constitution more than half a dozen times<\/strong>, and every powerful group in Pakistan has always sought to protect its authority and avoid accountability. He criticised both the PPP and PML-N<\/strong>, saying their struggle has always been for power, not public welfare. \u201cEvery amendment has been for the elite; never has any amendment been made for the common people,\u201d he remarked.<\/h4>\n

Responding to a question, Abbasi said that the case against Nawaz Sharif<\/strong> was based on the Panama Papers, yet he was punished \u201cnot for corruption, but for not receiving money from his son.\u201d He added that the same people who influenced the higher judiciary at that time are today facilitating the current government and ensuring the approval of new amendments.<\/h4>\n

When asked how powerful he was when he served as prime minister, Abbasi replied, \u201cI was fully empowered within my constitutional authority; no one dared to dictate to me.\u201d<\/h4>\n

He said the Constitution clearly defines the responsibilities of each institution, yet \u201cno institution works within its domain.\u201d The judiciary, he added, also exceeded its authority, and the consequences of that overreach are now visible.
