Under the Agricultural Transformation Plan initiated by Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif for the Pothwar region, a balloting ceremony was held in Rawalpindi for the allotment of mini dams. During the event, it was announced that farmers would receive these mini dams with a 70% government subsidy<\/strong>.<\/h4>\n

The ceremony was attended by MPA and Chairman of the Chief Minister\u2019s Inspection Team Raja Muhammad Hanif Advocate<\/strong>, and MPA Gujar Khan Raja Shaukat Aziz Bhatti<\/strong> as chief guests. Out of 42 applicants<\/strong>, 25 lucky farmers<\/strong> were selected through the draw \u2014 including 12 from Rawalpindi<\/strong>, 10 from Gujar Khan<\/strong>, and 3 from Kahuta<\/strong>.<\/h4>\n

According to the plan, a total of 400 mini dams<\/strong> will be constructed across the Pothwar region over the next three years \u2014 100 in the first year<\/strong>, 150 in the second<\/strong>, and another 150 in the third year<\/strong>. These mini dams aim to enhance water storage capacity, conserve water resources<\/strong>, and enable efficient irrigation<\/strong> for crops, orchards, and vegetables \u2014 expected to significantly increase agricultural productivity.<\/h4>\n

Speaking at the event, Raja Muhammad Hanif Advocate<\/strong> stated that within just one and a half years, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif<\/strong> has introduced historic initiatives<\/strong> to promote agriculture. He described the Agricultural Transformation Plan<\/strong> as a \u201cprecious gift\u201d for the farmers of Potohar, focusing on modern agricultural research, high-value crops, irrigation improvement<\/strong>, and promotion of horticulture<\/strong> through the provision of high-quality plants.<\/h4>\n

He further noted that under Maryam Nawaz\u2019s leadership, the Punjab government has empowered farmers through interest-free loans via the Kisan Card<\/strong> and the Green Tractor Scheme<\/strong>, offering tractors at subsidised rates.<\/h4>\n

On the occasion, MPA Raja Shaukat Aziz Bhatti<\/strong> highlighted that irrigation has always been a challenge in rain-fed (Barani) areas<\/strong> due to uneven terrain and deep water levels.
