In a major move to address the long-term water needs of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, a new institution named Pothwar Water Board<\/strong> is being established. The board will function as a corporate body<\/strong> and aims to improve the management and distribution of bulk water supply to the twin cities. The water will be sourced from Tarbela Dam<\/strong>, and a formal draft of the Pothwar Water Board Act, 2025<\/strong> has already been prepared and shared with relevant stakeholders for consultation.<\/h4>\n

According to official sources, the board will consist of a chairman and 12 members<\/strong>. The Federal Secretary of Interior<\/strong> will serve as the chairman. Other members will include the Chairman of CDA<\/strong>, Secretary of Punjab Irrigation Department<\/strong>, Presidents of Rawalpindi and Chaklala Cantonment Boards<\/strong>, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources<\/strong>, MD WASA<\/strong>, DG RDA<\/strong>, and the Administrator of DHA Islamabad<\/strong>, along with two private technical experts<\/strong> to be appointed by the federal government for a three-year term.<\/h4>\n

The board\u2019s secretariat<\/strong> will be based at the CDA headquarters<\/strong>, but under the proposed act, it may establish its office elsewhere if deemed necessary.<\/h4>\n
