years.<\/h4>\n<h4>Safia Kareem, 51, was dragged along Manchester Road in Nelson after she was struck by a Volkswagen Golf being driven at speed by Abubakar Mahmood, 20.<\/h4>\n<h4>Preston Crown Court heard the car being driven by Mahmood, of Farrer Street, Nelson, struck Ms Kareem at around 65mph on the 30mph road.<\/h4>\n<h4>Joseph Allman, prosecuting, said that following the crash, Mahmood failed to stop and continued to drive for around 1.2 miles before abandoning the vehicle.<\/h4>\n<h4>Mr Allman said Ms Kareem, who worked as a carer, had been to see one of her long-term patients at around 7.30pm on the day of the crash.<\/h4>\n<h4>She left the house around 50 minutes later and looked to her right as she prepared to cross Manchester Road.<\/h4>\n<h4>Around four seconds later she was hit by Mahmood, who had never passed a driving test, the court heard.<\/h4>\n<h4>Footage was played in court of previous instances in which Mahmood had driven dangerously.
