London (Pothwar.com, February 25, 2025) \u2013 A Blackburn mosque and community hub which is home to a first of its kind Islamic museum has opened to the public.<\/h4>\n

Hundreds of people from across Lancashire and the North West packed into the new Al-Buraq masjid on Saturday for the first time as it held its official ribbon-cutting ceremony.<\/h4>\n

The mosque, located off Devonport Road, has been made possible through a huge fundraising effort.<\/h4>\n

Crowds gathered on Devonport Road at around midday and soon hundreds were thronging the entrance. Soon after, mosque elders joined volunteers at the official opening.<\/h4>\n

Funds for the mosque had been raised through a series of sponsored walks and treks and donations from the local community over a seven-year period.<\/h4>\n

The new building replaces the Islamic Education Centre on the corner of Addison Street as the community\u2019s focal point for prayers and religious activities.<\/h4>\n

The majority of worshippers live in the surrounding area.<\/h4>\n

The opening was spread over two days, so a special women’s event could take place on Sunday.<\/h4>\n

Special guest at the event was Sheykh Lokman Efendi who had travelled from New York.<\/h4>\n

As well as the stunning prayer hall, a state-of-the-art funeral area, and a dedicated women\u2019s zone, the mosque will host an Islamic Museum with rare Islamic artefacts on display.<\/h4>\n

The artefacts from the Ottoman era include an original key to the Kaaba in Makkah dating back more than 100 years. The Kiswah, the cloth that covers the Kaaba, dating back to the early 19th century, is also being displayed.<\/h4>\n

More than 20 artefacts are on display, many of which have never been on public display in the UK.<\/h4>\n

The museum aims to attract schools, community groups, and the wider public, promoting education and cultural appreciation.<\/h4>\n

The mosque said it was hoping to launch a new food bank, the \u2018Blackburn Community Fridge\u2019, which will collect donations from local businesses.<\/h4>\n
