Kahuta (Pothwar.com, Imran Zamir, 30 January 2025)<\/em> \u2013 Members of the Kahuta Press Club staged a strong protest against the PECA Act 2025 on the call of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) and the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ). The press club condemned the act, labelling it a “black law.”<\/h4>\n

Speaking at the demonstration, President of Kahuta Press Club Raja Imran Zameer, Senior Patron Saeed Afzal Chauhan, General Secretary Asghar Hussain Kayani, Patron-in-Chief of the Traders’ Association and Jamaat-e-Islami leader Malik Abdul Raoof, along with journalists Raja Shahid Ajmal, Zulfiqar Satti, Aasim Nazeer Janjua, Dr Abdul Qadeer, Nadeem Azad, and young lawyer Arsalan Asghar Kayani Advocate, strongly rejected the amendments. They declared the act an attack on journalists’ rights.<\/h4>\n

Raja Imran Zamir Janjua and Asghar Hussain Kayani stated that media is a vital pillar of the state and cannot be silenced. They condemned the government’s move to pass the law in secrecy without consulting journalists, calling it an assault on press freedom. They urged the government to withdraw the bill immediately.<\/h4>\n

The protesters also expressed solidarity with PFUJ President Afzal Butt, Secretary General Arshad Ansari, and the entire leadership, vowing to stand with them in their struggle. They reaffirmed their commitment to continuing the fight until the controversial law is repealed.<\/h4>\n
