assured the International Monetary Fund (IMF) of implementing an agricultural tax starting January 2025. According to media reports and sources within the Ministry of Finance, the new tax regime will focus on boosting revenue from agriculture, currently generating only PKR 8 billion annually.<\/h4>\n<h4>Pakistan&#8217;s untapped agricultural tax potential is estimated at PKR 2,300 billion, with initial projections targeting PKR 1,050 billion in revenue. Discussions also included imposing taxes on livestock, while the provinces\u2019 collective budget surplus in Q1 FY 2024-25 reached PKR 360 billion, exceeding the IMF-mandated target of PKR 342 billion by PKR 18 billion.<\/h4>\n<h4>Punjab achieved a provincial surplus of PKR 40 billion, reversing an earlier reported deficit of PKR 160 billion. Meanwhile, IMF officials, led by Nathan Porter, concluded five days of negotiations with federal and provincial representatives. The IMF emphasized swift implementation of agricultural tax reforms, particularly instructing Sindh to expedite legislation.
