Quraishi, a federal magistrate judge and the son of Pakistani immigrants, was confirmed by the U.S. Senate for a federal judgeship in New Jersey on Thursday, becoming the first Muslim Federal District Court judge in the nation\u2019s history.<\/h4>\n<h4>Judge Quraishi acknowledged his history-making status after President Biden announced his intention to nominate him in March. \u201cCandidly,\u201d the judge said, \u201cI would prefer to be the hundredth, if not the thousandth.\u201d He added, \u201cI understand what it means to the community.\u201d<\/h4>\n<h4>Judge Quraishi, who was born in New York City and raised in Fanwood, N.J., graduated from Rutgers Law School in 2000.
