\nThe whole world is at a standstill. We are deeply saddened by the daily reports of loss of our family, friends and loved ones. Our community in particular is seeing a rising number of deaths in the Muslim Community. It is heartbreaking to see families not able to be with their loved ones at the time of their departure from this world. The families left behind are suffering a devastating sense of isolation during the most difficult time. Social distancing rules mean that the community cannot come together to support and pay their respects to the family of the deceased. Nor can families and friends perform last religious rites and pray \u1e62al\u0101t al-Jan\u0101zah for their loved ones. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
To support the Muslim community, I am working with a group of IT professionals to create a free and not-for-profit database of Muslim deaths during the lockdown period. This database will (1) include a dedicated page for each notified deceased person and enable the reading of duas, fatihahs and prayers for the deceased (2) provide family and friends a link to send condolence messages to the deceased persons family and, (3) facilitate the giving of sadaka jariyah\/charity donations in the name of the deceased person. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
