The Awards recognise the regions amazing unsung heroes and celebrate ordinary people doing extraordinary things.<\/h4>\n<h4>PC Mohammed Nadeem had only been in the job for nine months when he answered a radio call last February over concerns for a man near Hardy\u2019s Gate Bridge.<\/h4>\n<h4>Arriving first on the scene, PC Nadeem saw the man lose his footing and fall into the river. Without any thought for his own safety, he immediately scrambled down banking and jumped into the fast-flowing, freezing water.<\/h4>\n<h4>Over the next 20 minutes PC Nadeem, who admitted he is \u201cnot a great swimmer\u201d, battled to keep the man from drowning and finally managed to haul him against the current to the safety of the bank.<\/h4>\n<h4>As well as being honoured with a Pride of Manchester Award, all winners will go forward to the judging process for the Daily Mirror\u2019s Pride of Britain Awards, in partnership with TSB, which are screened on ITV in the autumn.
